The Benefits of Boswellia for Dogs

After lots of research on joint supplements for your dog, you may have come across the natural ingredient popping up time and again: Boswellia. With so many powerful benefits, this ancient ‘super herb’ is becoming a go-to addition in many natural remedies, canine joint and mobility supplements and care formulas.

We first introduced Boswellia into our horse supplements years ago, and thanks to its success with other dog joint supplements now also containing Boswellia, it now plays a key role in our Flexus 10 and Flexus VS supplements for dogs, so your furry pals can benefit from its advantages.

But what actually is it? What are the benefits of Boswellia for dogs’ joints, and why have we been using it in our joint formulas for years? In this article, we’ll explore what Boswellia is, the science behind it, and the benefits it can bring to your dog’s mobility and wellbeing.

What is Boswellia?

Boswellia, also commonly known as Indian Frankincense or Boswellia Serrata, is a resin extracted from the bark of the Boswellia serrata tree, a species native to India, the Middle East, and Northern Africa. This remarkable plant has a long history in traditional medicine, where it has been used for thousands of years to help manage conditions linked to inflammatory disorders, asthma, arthritis and digestive issues.

In modern times, Boswellia has made its way into holistic health practices and natural supplements across the globe. Under more scientific analysis, the main component of Boswellia is Boswellic acid. This acid is thought to contain enzymes that have anti-inflammatory properties. Boswellia may help to calm the body’s inflammatory response, which is often at the root of pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility.

Research backs up these traditional uses. Several studies have shown that the implementation of Boswellia has helped patients manage several health conditions. More recently, scientific interest has expanded into the veterinary world, with studies suggesting that dogs may experience very similar benefits. Early findings indicate that Boswellia can play a valuable role in supporting joint health, mobility, and comfort in our four-legged friends, making it an increasingly popular ingredient in natural canine joint supplements.

Why Do We Use Boswellia?

Boswellia has long been valued for its natural healing properties and has become a trusted ingredient in the equine and canine supplement market. Pet owners and professionals alike are actively seeking it, whether as a carefully balanced blend or as a stand-alone ingredient, thanks to its well-documented benefits.

Known for its natural joint support, the herbal supplement helps cushion joint pain with its anti-inflammatory components. Beyond simply soothing occasional joint pain, it also supports the long-term protection of cartilage and mobility, making it a powerful ally for animals of all ages, from active working dogs to older companions who may need extra support.

The proven success of Boswellia in both equine and canine health has made it a natural choice for our formulations. When developing Flexus VS, our premium joint supplement for dogs, we wanted to not only build on the Flexus 10 ingredients by adding collagen, but we felt that Boswellia would be the perfect fit. Following this success, we also chose to enhance the original Flexus 10 formula with Boswellia, ensuring that all pets can benefit from this powerful ingredient.

At the heart of our approach is a commitment to purity, efficacy of ingredients and scientific integrity.  We only include ingredients backed by research and proven to deliver the best results for animals. Boswellia is a perfect example: a natural, well-studied, and highly effective ingredient that aligns with our mission to provide supplements you can trust.

Boswellia isn’t just a trend; it’s an essential part of joint support that helps animals move, play, and live more comfortably every day.

Is Boswellia safe for dogs?

Boswellia is derived from the resin of the Boswellia tree. It is 100% natural and safe for dogs, as well as humans! With a rich history of scientific research, it is essential for those owners who are unsure about ingredients.

How much Boswellia for dogs per day?

How much Boswellia you should give your dog depends on the weight of your pup. For example, our recommendation for our Flexus 10 supplement for a 10kg – 25kg Dog is 2 scoops/capsules, which contains 40g of Boswellia.

How quickly does Boswellia work?

The noticeable effects of Boswellia will depend on your dog, however we expect to see improvements in the first few weeks with the recommendations of the double amount for the first 4 weeks. However, significant improvements should be expected 2-3 months of taking the supplement.
