The Benefits of Boswellia for Dogs

If you’re up on your joint supplement research, you may have seen a recent natural ingredient burst onto the supplement scene – Boswellia. But what are the benefits of Boswellia for dogs?

Whilst we have been using this ‘super-herb’ ingredient in our horse supplements for a few years now, many dog joint supplements now also contain this ingredient, including our own Flexus 10 and Flexus VS. But what actually is it? What are the benefits of Boswellia for dogs joints, and why have we been using it in our joint formulas for years?

What is Boswellia?

Boswellia, also known as Indian Frankincense or Boswellia Serrata, is a herb extracted from the Boswellia serrata tree, a species native to India, the Middle East, and Northern Africa. It is often used in modern holistic medicine, and has been used for thousands of years to treat inflammatory disorders, like asthma and arthritis in those countries it originates from.

Under a more scientific analysis, the main component of Boswellia is boswellic acid. This acid that is thought to contain enzymes that have anti-inflammatory properties. Several studies show that the implementation of Boswellia has helped patients manage several health conditions, from arthritis to asthma, to inflammatory bowel disease in humans. Studies into the effects of Boswellia on dogs have found similar results.

Why do we use Boswellia?

Boswellia has been on the horse supplement market for quite some time. Customers are actively seeking it, either in a blend ingredients or as a stand-alone ingredient due to its amazing properties.

When we formulated Flexus VS as a premium joint supplement in our dog range, we wanted to not only build on the Flexus 10 ingredients by adding collagen but we felt that Boswellia would be the perfect fit. We have since decided to add Boswellia to the original Flexus 10 formula as well.

We pride ourselves on the purity and efficacy of ingredients, ensuring we only include ingredients with scientific backing that provide the best results for your animals. As a natural ingredient with anti-inflammatory properties, it’s only natural that we’d include it in our joint supplements!
